Mike Pence had a John McCain moment in Iowa. What took him so long to challenge a Trump sycophant?

July 8, 2023 By Egberto Willies

In a John McCain moment, Mike Pence forcefully pushed back at a MAGA woman who claimed it’s his fault that Biden is the president.

Mike Pence found his spine in a recent political event in Iowa.

“If it weren’t for your vote, we would not have Joe Biden in the White House,” a MAGA woman asked Pence. “Right. “Joe Biden shouldn’t be there. And all of those wonderful things that you and Trump were doing together would be continuing, and this country would be on the right path. Do you ever second-guess yourself? That was a constitutional right that you had to send those votes back to the states. It was not like you were going to personally elect him. We all know what the number of votes that were there who won that election changed history for this country.”

After giving a long explanation on why he did not fulfill Donald Trump’s request for him to be a part of the coup by disrupting the electoral vote count, the former vice president said the following.

“I say this with great affection and respect,” Pence said to the MAGA woman. “The Constitution is very clear. My job was to oversee the session of Congress where objections could be heard, and I made sure that objections would be recognized so we could hear whatever evidence or any debate there was. But the Constitution says you open and count the votes, no more, no less. The Constitution affords no authority for the vice president or anyone else to object to or return votes to the states. It has never been done before and should never be done in the future. I am sorry mam, but that is what the Constitution says. No vice president in American history ever asserted the authority that you have been convinced that I had. And I want to tell you that with all due respect. President Trump was wrong about my authority that day and he is still wrong.”

Mike Pence could have said all of this years ago. He could have said it before January 6th. It would have made a difference then. Instead, he remains complicit in his actions in the attempted coup on the United States of America, the January 6th insurrection.
