Right winger equates women’s right to choose with the atrocities by some Vietnam soldiers.

September 17, 2023 By Egberto Willies

*

A Right-Wing caller to PDR attempted to equate the rights women won to control their bodies with the atrocities some Vietnam soldiers affected on children. It is important that we expose the backward and dangerous thought processes of many on the Right that are affecting our freedoms to this day.

Women’s rights and Vietnam atrocities.

Watch Politics Done Right T.V. here.

Brian, the caller, equates the atrocities committed by some soldiers in Vietnam, where they were labeled “baby killers,” with the legalization of abortion in 1973, implying that women undergoing abortions are also “baby killers.”

That is a ridiculous analogy that was refuted intensely. While individuals can have personal religious beliefs about unborn children, men don’t have the right to dictate what a woman does with her body. One must denounce any comparison of Vietnam atrocities, where whole villages were massacred, to women making choices about their reproductive rights. Such comparisons undermine credibility and are misleading.

It is important that women’s rights and decisions about their own bodies are never victim to the personal beliefs imposed by others. The core of the argument lies in the importance of individual rights and the dangers of drawing false equivalences. The progressive viewpoint emphasizes personal agency, particularly concerning decisions related to one’s body.

Safeguarding women’s autonomy and decision-making capacities, especially regarding their health and bodies must not be the subject of the whims of arcane ideologies. These discussions are essential reminders of the broader political and societal contexts within which the reproductive rights debate unfolds.
