RESOLUTION OF ENDORSEMENT MORATORIUM FOR MAYOR JOHN WHITMIRE

December 14, 2025 By Egberto Willies

Whereas: John Whitmire was featured with Republican Harris County Commissioner Tom
Ramsey on a fundraiser supporting Congressman Dan Crenshaw

Whereas: Openly supporting GOP politicians and Trump supporters undermines the Democratic
Party at the local, state, and national level.

Whereas: Dan Crenshaw has engaged in racist dog whistle attacks, going so far as to filing
legislation to defund universities engaging in DEI initiatives

Whereas: Crenshaw supports DOGE and has referred to it as completely normal and
claiming there is precedent for it. [1] ..and

Whereas: Crenshaw cheered Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter and called anyone who
opposed it “angry little authoritarians.” [2] …and

Whereas: Local Houston government is a key arena for Democrats to resist the
authoritarian nature of our state and federal governments led by Abbott/Patrick/Paxton and
the Trump/Musk Regime. [3] …and

Whereas: Congressman Dan Crenshaw continues to support the Trump/Musk Regime and
hand-waved the January Insurrection, initially claiming it was not pre-planned and eventually
saying he wouldn’t hold it against fellow Republican colleagues because he “wouldn’t have
friends if he held grudges” and a “lot of them did that.”

Whereas: Dan Crenshaw agreed with an extremist podcast host in claiming Planned
Parenthood is “murdering babies.” [5] …and

Whereas: Congressman Dan Crenshaw called Donald Trump a “moderate candidate” in
October of 2024.” [6] …and
Whereas: Dan Crenshaw called for Europe to “boost its defense or shut up” while Vladimir
Putin threatens to take over the continent. [7] ..and

Whereas: Crenshaw made light of the dangers of Signal chats leaking highly classified
military information in a recent congressional intelligence committee hearing, reducing the
mistake to silly emoji use and saying we should take Pete Hegseth “at his word” and that
“it’s a mistake and we’ve got to move on” without consequences. [8] …and

Whereas: Commissioner Tom Ramsey voted against certifying the 2021 Harris County
Election results in opposition to three Democrats and one other Republican on the court,
playing into election denial myths in the wake of Trump’s 2020 election denial and less than
a year after the J6 riots… [9] …and

Whereas: Tom Ramsey falsely claimed the LGBTQ community engaged in “child grooming.”.
[10] …and

Whereas: Tom Ramsey openly opposed a Living Wage for Harris County workers, hurting
working people and opposing the labor constituencies that are key to future Democratic
Party election victories. [4] …and

Whereas: Mayor John Whitmire knowingly appeared at a political fundraiser hosted by and
benefiting Congressman Dan Crenshaw, a Republican candidate endorsed by the Harris
County GOP. [12] …and

Whereas: Democratic Precinct Chairs take an oath of office to support only Democratic
candidates.

Whereas: the Democratic Party believes in holding its highest-ranking members to the
same standard as its voters and grassroots leaders.

Be it resolved: the Harris County Democratic Party condemns the political behavior of John
Whitmire and finds that his conduct undermines the values and mission of the Democratic
Party, warranting denial of endorsement in all future elections effective immediately
