Falkenberg: Zealots know no limits in abortion debate – Houston Chronicle

image.png

One of my Kingwood Area Democrats friend sent me a link to the article below. I am just catching up to a lot of my emails and read it just now. What an excellent article. The question is why we do not see these in much larger volumes. I was so impressed with the article I sent the author the following email: Excellent article. I wish more of our journalist would report hard hitting issues like this in a point of fact unbiased method. The media is there to inform and to keep watch on our government. Unfortunately in Texas and many of our Conservative states the media, both print and broadcast, seem to be so timid that it has allowed citizens to support politicians that materially affect them negatively. Where were the constant display of hard hitting reporting during the Legislature’s decimation of our school funding and invasion of women’s bodies with the sonogram; very little coverage proportional to the actual effect these laws will have on Texas citizens. I sure hope you keep writing these art … [Read more...]

We all want to be in charge of our own care — the health care law means we can be

image.png

Americans strongly support what the new health care law does. But a new poll out today shows we still have ways to go in fully informing the public about the law -- particularly on the "individual mandate" in the face of continued right-wing attacks on health reform. Here's how to talk about it. The new health care law simply makes sure everyone takes charge of their own care and gets affordable insurance -- because when people without it get sick, the costs get passed down to the rest of us. You can keep the coverage you have. Or if you don't like your plan or don't have one, you can pick an affordable insurance option to take personal responsibility for yourself and your family. Having everyone take responsibility for their own care started as a Republican idea and Americans strongly support what the new health care law does.Everyone can take charge of their own care OR the rest of us can keep paying more when people with no health insurance get sick. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Over 60% of … [Read more...]

Eyes on Detroit–Mitt Romney would’ve let Michigan fail.

image.png

Yesterday, Mitt Romney faced voters at the polls in Michigan -- on the heels of news that the Detroit automakers he wanted to go bankrupt are now selling so many cars they're racing to keep up. Long after the polls close, voters have to live with the choices our leaders make. When the U.S. auto industry was teetering on the brink, Romney wanted to let Detroit go bankrupt. His so-called "turnaround" for Detroit's struggling automakers would've meant laying off over a million Americans, devastating our iconic auto sector, and pushing our economy over the cliff. President Obama made the call, did the deal, and saved more than a million jobs -- and now Detroit's automakers are hiring and selling so many cars they're racing to keep up. Whether or not Mitt Romney succeeds in Michigan today, voters across America won't forget: he would've let Michigan fail. CLAIM: "Romney wanted to save Detroit through private financing and traditional bankruptcy." REALITY: The fact is that … [Read more...]

Michigan Results Show Mitt Romney Cannot Connect With Most Middle Class Voters -

image.png

Romney's Regular Voter Problem Despite growing up in Michigan and heavily outspending his opponents, Mitt Romney won ugly in the Michigan primary. After struggling to connect with regular voters, Romney won among six-figure earners and lost with everyone else. We need leaders who'll fight for working Americans, not just those living off their wealth.Romney wanted to let Michigan's working families fail and he's still demanding more tax giveaways for millionaires like him. It’s no wonder Romney only won among six-figure earners and lost with everyone else -- even in his home state of Michigan. In state after state, Romney does worse with voters the closer they get to the average American income.Romney's got a regular voter problem: they're on to him and what he stands for, and they're not buying it. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW In the GOP primaries, Mitt Romney's cleaning up with the richest voters but struggling with regular Americans -- doing worse with voters the closer they get to the average American i … [Read more...]

The Republican Brain: Why Even Educated Conservatives Deny Science — and Reality | News & Politics | AlterNet

image.png

The article below is true and something that has been known for some time. In fact I went to NetRoots Nation and met the author Drew Westen who wrote the book on the right, The Political Brain. It illustrated much of what was said in the article but gives excellent suggestions on how to break through the closed minds of many on the Right. If you are into politics or if you are an activist that is trying to make a difference, Westen's book is a must. I was blown away after reading it because I found myself agreeing with just about every point he was making. Meeting him in person was great though we disagreed on how much the President was really able to accomplish given the intransigence not of the GOP but of Blue Dog Democrats. If we want to blame someone, we must blame the Blue Dog Democrats for any failure in the President’s first two year as well as the effectiveness of the GOP massive misinformation campaign. Chardon Ohio High School Shooting Another Example of Right Wing Problem Solving Results (3 Students Now Dead)

image.png

UPDATE: The death count is now up to 3 students. Two students at Chardon High School have paid the price for our Right Wing gun policy. It is time that Liberals and Progressives call this out. My child is in college and for a while was frantic that our Texas Legislature was going to allow the ability of her classmates to pack heat next to her. We wonder why we get the shootings at Columbine. We wonder why we get a student shoot up at Virginia Tech. How about US Representative Gifford getting shot in the head and many around her getting killed by a madman definitely skewed by Right Wing messaging. This is the result that we must expect in an America that unlike most other civilized western countries is a society that is full to the brim with guns and literally policy governed by a National Rifle Association that is always uncompromising in supporting any kind of gun control. If people have easy access to guns, as proven, they use them. When a parent wants to discipline his daughter by shooting up her … [Read more...]

Making Named Bracelets With Strings In Cozumel Mexico

image.png

I was on a cruise and we docked in Cozumel Mexico. This young man told me he could create one of those string bracelets using knitted strings that he would do on the spot in five minutes. I took him up on the challenge. I told him $10.00 if he did it under 5 minutes. He did it in 2 minutes and 47 seconds and tied it off in a next 13 seconds for a total of 3 minutes exactly. I thought this type of talent just needed to be exposed. I told him I was going to put it up on CNN iReports and he got excited and asked me for the location so he could see it with his friends.
