The June jobs report has been released: 80k new jobs and unemployment unchanged at 8.2%. As the political world reacts, the message must reflect our deep understanding of the plight Americans face and our steadfast commitment to fighting hard for more jobs. We also must be clear about who is standing in the way and why.
I felt compelled to write this blog because I know how the job numbers are being spun by the mainstream media. Moreover while in this forum I try to be more trans-partisan, I refuse to allow fallacies to take hold as they are hard to rectify. One of the reasons we are not where we should be economically is because of gridlock. During President Obama’s presidency the gridlock was one-sided as clearly stated in the book “It’s Even Worse Than It Looks: How the American Constitutional System Collided With the New Politics of Extremism” by Thomas E. Mann & Norman J. Ornstein.
Americans are struggling. We need more good jobs and leaders committed to creating them. Republican politicians admit their top priority is defeating Obama. Could it be that’s why they’ve done everything they can to sabotage the recovery on his watch?
This Recession was started by letting Wall Street crash the economy, and the crashed economy was sustained with spending cuts that threw Americans out of work.
Even Mitt Romney admits that massive spending cuts will “throw us into recession or depression" — but he’s for them anyway because the worse off we are under Obama, the better his political prospects. We need leaders who care more about winning for America than winning for themselves. We need more jobs and less sabotage.
Our economy is not a game. We cannot allow politicians to simply oppose for the purpose of winning. It hurts every day Americans. The facts are out there.
- Our economy is growing again, though it’s not growing fast enough. Our businesses have created over 4 million new jobs in the past two years, but we’re not creating them fast enough.
- But when Washington Republicans are this determined to keep millions of Americans jobless just to put one man — President Obama — out of work, how surprising is that?
- That’s why we need leaders who care more about winning for America than winning for themselves. We need more jobs and less sabotage.
This less than optimal report will be used in an attempt to demonize Obamacare and in so doing put millions of Americans at risk. A spade must be called a spade.
- Take it from businesses themselves — they say Republicans are the ones creating uncertainty with their threats to repeal Obamacare.
- The health care law gives small businesses more control by enabling them to band together to get the same lower rates that big corporations get and giving them tax credits to make it more affordable to cover their workers.
- Making insurance more affordable is how health reform will help American businesses create millions of jobs over the next decade. Not only that, Obamacare also means freedom for entrepreneurs to start new companies without worrying about losing their family’s coverage.
- Look, Americans are tired of Republican politicians dwelling on this. It’s time to move forward in implementing the law so that health care works for everyone.
Mitt Romney in stating he knows how to create jobs must be examined.
- Does Mitt Romney know how to make himself and Wall Street investors very rich? Absolutely. How to offshore American jobs to China? Yes. Is he a voice for working families? How can that be if you intend to reinstitute to supply side economics, impose austerity, and effectively increase middle class taxes via the loss of public services.
- When Romney was governor of Massachusetts, he claimed his corporate experience would help him create jobs. It didn’t. In fact, under Romney’s governorship, Massachusetts dropped to 47th out of 50 states on job creation. Again, this is not conjecture it is fact. Americans must have accurate information for decision making.
- The fact is that Mitt Romney’s policies will help Wall Street make millions off of businesses that fail and make working families even as millionaires like him pay less.
- Americans need a president who fights for an economy that works for everyone. That means putting jobs ahead of maximizing profits for corporate executives and their wealthy investors.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The Ryan Republican budget that Mitt Romney has endorsed could cost our economy over 4 million jobs in the next two years alone.
- Even Romney admits that massive spending cuts will “throw us into recession or depression" — but he supports them anyway.
- Last year, Washington Republicans tried to kill over 7 million jobs. This year, they’ve forced Congress to leave at least 1 million jobs on the negotiating table.
- If Republican politicians hadn’t pushed so hard to lay off our teachers, cops, and firefighters and block efforts to put Americans back to work fixing our roads and bridges, the unemployment rate could be down to 6% already.
- In fact, if public sector employment had grown since the official start of the recovery by the average amount it grew in the three previous recoveries, we’d have nearly 2 more million jobs today.

Why not tell us the NET number of new jobs in the past two years?
