CNN PRODUCER NOTE Veteran iReporter EWillies1961, himself a former Catholic, says the Pope’s decision was not entirely surprising, given that many of his values in today’s world simply made "no sense". He also says that the Catholic Church is far too male dominated and misses out on women’s input. (The Pope did say in 2010 that condoms would be acceptable to use in certain circumstances, analysts at the time said the move did not mean the Vatican now approved of contraception, but that he may have shifted his thinking about condom usage and AIDS.)

I do not believe the resignation of the pope will change much. Change will be forced on the church in the long run. I do believe he is leaving because of the building many scandals and controversial statements. Science has proven condoms reduce the spread of AIDs yet he recommends otherwise? It is interesting that the leader of a church with his belief can actually cause more deaths than war with his outdated beliefs and the lack of acceptance of science.
