According to MSNBC President George W Bush was hospitalized this morning. Bush’s office issued a release that said,
During his annual physical examination at the Cooper Clinic in Dallas yesterday, a blockage was discovered in an artery in his heart. At the recommendation of his doctors, President Bush has agreed to have a stent placed to open the blockage. The procedure was performed successfully, earlier this morning without any complication at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. President Bush is in high spirits, eager to return home tomorrow and resume his normal schedule on Thursday. He is grateful to the skilled medical professionals who have cared for him. He thanks his family, friends, and fellow citizens for their prayers and well wishes and he encourages us all to get our regular checkups.
One can be sure that all Americans wish a speedy recover for the former president. The former president has always seemed to be in great shape. One sees him working his ranch and jogging. He is relatively slim and one would imagine with a full staff, has healthy foods. Yet there was a time bomb in his heart. Lucky for him he had the best medical care afforded to those with wealth and/or good health insurance.
The release from his office says “he encourages us all to get our regular checkups.” Sadly those without insurance likely cannot afford an annual checkup. Those with substandard health insurance do not have the luxury of an annual checkup. The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) forces all insurance policies to cover preventative care. As such dying from a blockage that the former president just discovered in his annual checkup is no longer necessary. Staying alive is no longer solely the purview of the ‘haves’.

Annual Checkup? What’s that?

I, for one, do not wish him a speedy recovery. I wish him to be tried for war crimes. He needs to get down on his knees every single day for the rest of his miserable life and beg the American and Iraqi people for forgiveness.

These types of statements re-enforce the wrong paradigm. No one needs health insurance, what everyone needs is healthcare. They are completely different things. A law requiring everyone to have health insurance is just another step towards plutocracy. As corporate leaders and elected officials continue to become increasingly indistinguishable, the people will suffer increasingly.
The insurance companies are laughing all the way to the bank on this one. They’re an unnecessary middle man. They’re responsible for the horrible state of health care. Throw a few regulations at them and pass a law requiring every member of the worlds strongest economy to buy their product? Way to punish them for their inhumane actions.
I understand the regulations will help people, but if the day ever comes where I get to “vote” for either Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho or WalMart’s candidate, I don’t believe this precedent setting law will have been worth it.
