Jon Stewart calls out media for disproportionate reaction to Oregon school shooting vs Eric Cantor loss

Jon Stewart shows silly media shock over Eric Cantor loss and nonchalant reaction to Oregon school shooting

Many in the mainstream traditional media tend to balk when they are marginalized by bloggers and other forms of media. In fact Chuck Todd said the following a few months back.

“There are concerted campaigns by activists …. who actually are trying to delegitimize the press. That is their goal in order to make the activists the first place people go.”

The reality is there is little effort necessary to accomplish that feat. One can observe how the Bowe Robert Bergdahl story was covered. In fact Jon Stewart had some fun with that story at the expense of both the government and the traditional media.

Of course this week two very newsworthy events among many others were at the center of attention. The first was yet another shooting, a shooting at Reynolds High School in Oregon. The second was Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor soundly beaten by Tea Party grassroots candidate David Bart.

Jon Stewart in the clip above shows the lack of proportionality by a traditional media gone awry. They hyperventilated about the Eric Cantor loss as if it would mark some epic change in American life. Yet they shrugged off the shooting at the high school. While they covered it to some extent, the coverage was nowhere near the gravity of the situation.

School shootings and mass shootings in America are on the rise. The media treats each of these shootings as spectators to a rating boost. Jon Stewart shows a media out of step with reality in graphic terms.
