Are they the new Pharisees? Republicans have gotten worse after 10 years

June 14, 2014 By Egberto Willies

GOP Republican Pharisees

Back in 2004 I wrote the blog piece below at PoliticalTruths.info. What is amazing is that after 10 years their behavior got worse.

  • They denied relief for Americans struggling with predatory student loans.
  • They denied struggling Americans an extension to unemployment compensation.
  • They denied millions of poor Americans the Medicaid Expansion to Obamacare.

Who are The New Pharisees? Right Wing Conservative Republicans

11/16/2014

Watching the Right Wing Conservative Republicans bring memories of Sunday school classes into perfect perspective. It is amazing that the same behavior exhibited by the Pharisees in biblical times are once again upon us. This is not the first time such has occurred in our country’s history. Fortunately for our society” these people ultimately get exposed ” less we forget Jim Bakker , Jimmy Swaggert, Jim Jones, David Koresh among many others.

We need not look too far to find the hypocrisy of these Pharisees.

  • President George W Bush our morally superior president was arrested for drunk driving.
  • The red states have a much higher divorce rate that the blue states. Moreover” Massachusetts has the lowest divorce rate in the country.
  • Bill Bennett the conservative bastion of morality is a high rolling gambler.
  • Dr. Laura Schlessinger the moral crusader posed for porn styled pictures.
  • Rush Limbaugh the ultra conservative that wanted all drug addicts locked up with the keys thrown away is himself a druggy.
  • Congressman Dan Burton persecuted Bill Clinton for his infidelities without divulging his more serious transgression” an illegitimate child he did not claim publicly.
  • Congresswoman Helen Chenoweth persecuted Bill Clinton for his infidelities without divulging her own many infidelities.
  • Speaker Newt Gingrich was ruthless in bringing down many politicians while himself having extramarital affairs divorcing his first of many wives when she contracted cancer as well as being reprimanded by the house for poor campaign finance violations.

Many more prominent conservatives could be named but the picture is clear. While a similar list could be composed for progressives the fact is they never claimed superior morals or for that matter attempted to impose them on others.

Progressive liberals have been very weak in exposing the hypocrisy of the right. Unless a willingness to do so is effected then the country will continue to migrate towards the Dark Ages.

The sense of loss of male identity and national impermeability from two Godless wars, is hard. Cheney and Rumsfeld took the invincible out of modern warfare. Middle class white supremacy is being exposed for what it is; obstinate, middle-aged white men & women feeling as if the world they thought existed, is slowly fading away. It never existed.

The reality of a ruling class that pits all lower and middle socio-economic classes and races against each other, may have created a lifeboat or a foxhole. Everyone inside needs work the others, just to stay alive. The politics of impoverishment make strange bedfellows. Now that race and national origin have been exposed as a ruse or a blindfold, the reawakening of Texans’ true spirit of Heroic Action may return.

Cordell Walker treated everyone fairly, and executed Texas justice fairly. He was colorblind and treated all Texans the same way. He ate rice and beans, as quickly as a Texas barbecue. Bad people were bad, not by color or class. They all met the bootheel of justice. Walker did not walk alone. He had a partner.

What might it look like when the white man (me) realizes that life was never really the way we remember it? Those of privilege were few, yet those of humble origin could climb up the tree to see the light of the sky. After the 2009 crash, we saw that hard luck can be visited on anyone. The Grim Reaper doesn’t care who you are, neither should any of us.

Yes, some middle aged white men and women remember the peace and tranquility when they were young, when our parents were able to shield us from the misery of so many terrible realities. Now, the TV & internet have shown us all, that there is no Wizard behind the screen. Gone are those days, for better or worse.

Let me share with you that, after living abroad in a land with all the shades of black and white and grey, there is a promised land. There truly is. It is right here. Right where you are standing. The middle-class, middle-aged white people are simply out of phase, like on Star Trek. All we need to do, is to open our arms, & take our hands off our side-arms for awhile.

There is good and bad with each person, each family and in all groups of humans, be that seen by color, accent or faith. In the end, Texas may show us that we are all in that small boat. They may show us that it really is a better life, when you can welcome all manner of people. Who has too many real friends? Let’s stop calling people names, and seek to call them friends. Campfires are always better with people around them to share common stories.

Go Texas! Show us that America is for all Americans. I hope to see you on the western plains. Let’s share a cup of Joe. I always wanted to be a Texas Ranger, not Chuck Norris, but the character he played.
