Annie’s List’s endorsed candidate Ina Minjarez wins

April 21, 2015 By Egberto Willies

Ina Minjarez wins

Ina Minjarez, Annie's List, Texas House District 124
Yesterday Annie’s List Executive Director Patsy Woods Martin predicted that its candidate would win the House District 124 race at Annie’s List’s luncheon in Houston, Texas. She was correct. Ina Minjarez won her race. Patsy Woods Martin released the following email.

 Friends,

I have some exciting news: Annie’s List-endorsed candidate Ina Minjarez just won her race in HD 124! She soundly defeated her opponent with 55% percent of the vote. Will you take a moment to join us in congratulating Representative-Elect Ina Minjarez on her incredible victory?

Ina’s victory is an important one: this district on San Antonio’s far west side has not been held by a woman in almost 20 years. And, once she is inaugurated, Representative-Elect Minjarez will join only eleven Annie’s List-endorsed women in the Texas House.

Annie’s List was proud to support Ina Minjarez in her strong campaign – and we couldn’t have done it without you! Thank you so much for your partnership which has allowed us to contribute critical resources to help pro-choice, progressive women, like Ina, to the Legislature.

Here at Annie’s List, we are proud to have kicked off our 2016 election cycle with this important win. Because of supporters like you, since our inception in 2003, Annie’s List contributed over $4 million dollars, trained thousands of women and helped elect – now 23! – progressive women to office. THANK YOU!

We hope you’ll join us in welcoming Representative-Elect Ina Minjarez to the State House and we look forward to partnering with you throughout the 2016 cycle!

Thank you again for your support!

Patsy Woods Martin
Executive Director

INA MINJAREZ WINS HOUSE DISTRICT 124

Annie’s List kicks off 2016 election cycle with win, strong team

SAN ANTONIO, TX – Today, Annie’s List-endorsed candidate Ina Minjarez soundly defeated Delicia Herrera in the race for Texas State House District 124 with 55% percent of the vote. The seat, formerly held by Jose Menendez, prior to his election to State Senate District 26, has not been held by a woman in almost 20 years. Representative-Elect Minjarez joins only eleven Annie’s List-endorsed women in the Texas House.

Annie’s List Executive Director Patsy Woods Martin congratulated Minjarez on a strong campaign.

“Annie’s List was proud to support Ina Minjarez in her successful campaign to represent San Antonio’s far west side. We are grateful to our supporters for partnering with us to contribute critical resources to help pro-choice, progressive women, like Ina, to the Legislature. At the Capitol, Representative-Elect Minjarez will have ample opportunity to fight for issues millions of Texans care deeply about: women, education and veterans – areas which are too often overlooked by the current administration.”

Annie’s List will host a conference call featuring Representative-Elect Ina Minjarez and Annie’s List staff reporting on this special election tomorrow, Wednesday April 22nd at 12pm. Participants must register for the call here; a call-in number and pin will be issued to registered guests only.

This special election is the first electoral challenge met by new Executive Director Patsy Woods Martin, who was confirmed as ED by the Annie’s List Board in January. Patsy leads Annie’s List veterans Deputy Director Piper Stege Nelson and Campaigns Director Colleen Loper, as well as Communications Director Laurie Felker Jones and Development Assistant Jovita Pardo, who recently joined the organization.

Annie’s List is a statewide political organization dedicated to changing the face of power in Texas politics by recruiting, training, supporting and electing progressive women to Texas offices. Since its founding in 2003, Annie’s List has contributed over $4 million, trained thousands of women and helped elect – now 23 – progressive women to office.

The next public event hosted by Annie’s List is scheduled on Tuesday, May 5th in Austin, Texas and features Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.
