Overreaction? Terror threat shuts down all Los Angeles schools (VIDEO)

Los Angeles Schools closed

A terror threat caused officials to closed down the entire primary, secondary, and charter Los Angeles schools.

The LA Times reports the following:

Officials closed all Los Angeles Unified School District campuses Tuesday morning after receiving a “credible threat” of violence involving backpacks and packages left at campuses.

Authorities said they plan a search operation of all the LAUSD’s more than 900 schools. The nation’s second-largest school district has more than 700,000 students.

“I think it’s important to take this precaution based on what has happened recently and what has happened in the past,” LAUSD Superintendent Ramon Cortines said.

The move comes less than two weeks after two shooters killed 14 people in San Bernardino in what was the deadliest terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11.

Our overreaction to email threats, phone threats, and simply threats in general is much more effective, disruptive, and inexpensive than actually effecting a terrorist attack. We can blame this on politicians who have used terrorism as a tool instead of setting up always-on structures and systems to mitigate terror in general, foreign and domestic.

Politicians have turned Americans into a people who scare easily and act irrationally. Politicians attempt to make certain people the scapegoats for terrorist and violent acts (Muslims, blacks, etc.) when the preponderance is otherwise.

Guns sold by American companies are used to kill Americans throughout the day, every day. Americans accept Planned Parenthood type attacks, Sandy Hook type attacks, Columbine type attacks without setting up gun controls, mental health, and economic policies to mitigate them. These are much more dangerous than all potential foreign terrorists combines. Yet we cower as our politicians make us a weak people, a seemingly strong country with an easily controlled people.

New York City seemed to have gotten the same email. Their reaction was that of adults. The Los Angeles school district is keeping their Twitter feed updated with instructions in real time.
