Snarky Maureen Dowd most recent article has my blood boiling. It is clear she does not understand the travails of this country. Her article “Spare Me the Purity Racket” illustrates a detached thought process too many in the Left elitist writing sphere have.
Dowd seemed most upset because Lefties on Twitter got on her case for an upscale party she had thrown that was attended by Pelosi, Schumer, Collins. Her response was to go full mock.
Then this week, lefty Twitter erected a digital guillotine because I had a book party for my friend Carl Hulse, The Times’s authority on Capitol Hill for decades, attended by family, journalists, Hill denizens and a smattering of lawmakers, including Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and Susan Collins.
Yo, proletariat: If the Democratic Party is going to be against chocolate, high heels, parties and fun, you’ve lost me. And I’ve got some bad news for you about 2020.
Many times I have spoken about the political rails in this country. There are no Democratic and Republican establishments in practice. A few years ago I wrote the article “Progressives must change the Democratic Party from within and without” that talks about this. Please read the entire article but here is an excerpt.
Have you ever asked why the Democratic Party Leadership always seems timid in the manner in which they fight for the values of the Democratic Platform, a document that supports the masses? The answer is simpler than one might think. Americans are being played by the Democratic Establishment & Republicans alike.
Think about the left and right rails of a train track. They are both going in the same direction. If Progressives pull on the left rail too hard or Conservatives pull on the right too hard, there is a derailment. It is essential for the Plutocracy to give the semblance of democracy with two parties. Ultimately the Establishment of these two parties can only go so far in their ‘native’ direction, hence the rails that force each side to toe the line.
We have guardians of the right and left flanks of the plutocracy. They like to term that the center. But it is something people think they have to vote for even as there is little there to make them whole. It is the reason most do less well every year.
Columnists like Maureen Dowd assume Americans are stupid and we generally play into their hands by adopting their arguments. The truth is that not impeaching this president now that we have what he did in black and white is a failure of duty. Moreover, it ensures all future presidents and candidates will assume power by any means necessary even if it means betraying our country for personal gain.
We must impeach the President and keep his criminality in the forefront so that if and when the Senate acquits him they are the ones left to answer questions. Americans are not stupid. If we show where Liberals and Conservatives alike have been convicted for much less, we will breakthrough with the 58+% of our population that is not blinded by Trumpism.
Elitist professed liberals who call themselves allies must answer what policy specifically of the Left they do not support, the ones that make those of us who want a poor and middle-class centric agenda for change. The truth is most Americans want these policies when polled.
Her following statement is only true if she thinks Americans are stupid, immoral, or worse, scared to challenge the people they are responsible to empower.
You can argue that impeachment, morally and constitutionally, is the right thing to do. But you also have to recognize that, historically and politically, it is not the right thing to do because it will lead to disaster.
The attempt to impeach Trump is one of the rare cases in which something obviously justified is obviously stupid.
There is no historic precedent for Trump. We will make history with the choices we make to mitigate him. Governing takes work. Politics is work. Activism is work. The thing is a Democracy does not survive on its own. It depends on keeping people engaged. Dowd and other elitists would have us all acquiesce to the plutocracy as long as they are comfortable. After all, they are the guardians of the gates that are keeping the pitchforks away — for now!
So the question becomes, why do we even listen to these people. I interviewed Maurice Mitchell at Netroots Nation, National Director of the Working Families Party. It is an interview and a speech everyone should listen to. I am tired of people who are not living the ever-deteriorating conditions of a plurality of Americans making comments that are not beneficial. I think I will make this my blog of the day
