Trump implodes at reporter Weijia Jiang’s probing question and abruptly ends press conference

May 11, 2020 By Egberto Willies

President Trump was unable to answer reporter Weijia Jiang’s question intelligently and decided to abruptly end the press conference after challenging her.

Child President pouts and ends presser at a difficult question from Weijia Jiang

CBS’ Weijia Jiang was called on by the president. She asked Trump why he was putting so much importance on the number of COVID-19 tests that have been done in the United States. Jiang said that given that Americans are dying what does it really matter.

The President was visibly irate. He tried the false equivalence of people dying from COVID-19 throughout the world. And then he really unloaded.

“They’re losing their lives everywhere in the world,” Trump snapped back. “And maybe that’s a question you should ask China. Don’t ask me. Ask China that question.”

Jiang did not take the obvious remarks with racial overtones lightly.

“Sir, why are you saying that to me, specifically?” Jiang asked.

It was clear that she understood why the president singled her out with the statement. He accused her of asking a nasty question. She balked.

“It’s not a nasty question,” Jiang replied. “Why does that matter?”

Trump would then call on CNN’s Kaitlin Collins and then passed on her as he implied she had not answered his ‘call’ fast enough.

A frustrated Trump then just threw in the towel. He abruptly ended the press conference.

You really should have included Trump calling her “Sir, why are you saying that to me, specifically?” question, as that’s when he called her question nasty and refused to answer any other question from her.

Frankly, the White House Press Whores need to just stop showing up to show the latest brown shiny that issues from his excretory orifice and pretend he doesn’t exist.
He’ll go insane with only Fox present, too small of an audience to play.
Instead, he remains the enemy of the people, while the gutless press remains the enema of the people and honestly, if it continues, it will lead to insurrection of “repressed” far right maniacs.

    Hi Egberto,

Patreon member here, love your work! Thanks!

A comment on this particular post, though, is that I think your paraphrase of CBS’ Weijia Jiang question:
    – Why is this a global competition to you if every day Americans are still losing their lives – to simply:
    – Why he was putting so much importance on the number of COVID-19 tests that have been done in the United States – somewhat misses her point, which I took to mean about Trump’s obsession with “winning”. For Trump, it’s all the competition, and since the US is clearly losing in number of cases and deaths, he’ll stress the total number of tests, vs number of tests per capita.

The way you paraphrased that also allows a right-wing spin interpretation that Trump already exploited in another reporter’s question about the double standard that the White House staff is tested daily versus when tests will become available to allow U.S. workers to be tested daily. His response to that question was to spin it (poorly, but we’ve seen worse go farther ) …” The president then decried a “double standard” … “You know what? If we didn’t get the tests, if we did no tests in the White House, you’d be complaining, ‘Why aren’t you getting tests for the White House?’ See, we can’t win,” said President Trump. ”

Rather than letting him get away with these spins – everyday – the press should either just #BoycottTrumpPressers altogether or call him on it, saying “no, nobody would complain that the White House is tested daily, as long as the essential workers – or anyone going back into a workplace – can also be tested daily.”

Hard to believe we are where we are!
Thanks for keeping everything front and center!

      Dear Jeff,

First of all thank you so kindly for your support. People like you give me the ability to do what I do. You are absolutely the heroes. You made a very good observation and we should all be cognizant of the spin. It is another data point to keep in my head as I write. Your feedback is important because we need to understand how what we say and write from our platform are digested which is the most important part of communication.

      Again, thanks for your support.
