George Stephanopoulos grills hyperventilating Rand Paul into a frenzy about GOP election lies

January 24, 2021 By Egberto Willies

This is what journalism is supposed to look like. George Stephanopoulos grilled Rand Paul into a hyperventilating frenzied state.

George Stephanopoulos dings Rand Paul

George Stephanopoulos was on a mission. He was not going to allow the notion that every story has two sides. And that threw Senator Rand Paul into a hyperventilating frenzy that made him appear like a kindergarten kid who did not get his way.

George asked Paul the simple question. Does he accept the fact that the election was not stolen? He could not but answer with the standard GOP word salad.

“Well, what I would say is that the debate over whether or not there was fraud should occur,” Paul said. “We never had any presentation in court where we actually looked at the evidence. Most of the cases were thrown out for lack of standing, which is a procedural way of not actually hearing the question.”

Stephanopoulos points out that there were 86 court challenges, and Trump lost them. As well all the states Republican and Democratic-controlled certified their elections. Of course, that has not been enough for the inciting conspiracy theory insurrectionist Republican leaders.

It is not enough for these Republican leaders that Joe Biden won the popular vote by more than 7 million votes. The election was not close except for the United States having an undemocratic Electoral College. One would think that decency and the desire for real democracy would temper the Republican leaders.

Rand Paul continued his frenzied attack. Stephanopoulos is a liberal journalist who did not listen to both sides of the story, he said. George did not let that stand. He made clear the story had one side. It was a fair election. Period.

Imagine if journalists did this in 2015/2016. Hell, imagine if they did this in 1979/1980. The world’s economy would have been spared, Donald Trump and Ronald Reagan.
