Kentucky’s lone Dem Rep lashes out at Republicans banning books & pronouns and not weapons of war.

April 11, 2023 By Egberto Willies

Kentucky’s lone Democratic Congressman, Morgan McGarvey, started his speech apolitically. As he progressed, he could not help lashing out at Republicans for their inhumane adherence to the weapons of war status quo.

Lone Kentucky Dem lashed out at Republicans for their dereliction.

Watch Politics Done Right T.V. here.

Congressman Morgan McGarvey (D-KY) admonished Republicans for spending valuable time on banning books and pronouns instead of passing humane policies that could prevent deadly incidents as they occurred in Louisville, Kentucky.

McGarvey made a snark remark that brought some levity to the press conference that brought a smile to the rather somber mayor Craig Greenberg.

“I’m an optimist,” said Rep. McGarvey. “Maybe to be a Democrat in Kentucky, you have to be. But I have seen us come together in the state legislature where I served before being elected to Congress, working with some of my conservative colleagues to introduce crisis aversion rights retention laws that would help temporarily remove firearms from people in crisis.”

McGarvey then spoke about some solutions.

“We can do this,” the Congressman said. “We can come together at the federal level, working with each other to solve this problem, which is impacting all of us in a uniquely American way. And get universal background checks so that people who shouldn’t have a gun can’t buy one. That we are taking weapons of war off of our streets, that we are helping people who are in crisis.”

And then the Congressman lashed out at Republicans.

“That is not a political issue,” McGarvey said. “But it becomes one when Kentucky Republicans would rather ban books and pronouns and then make Kentucky a sanctuary state for weapons. We are hurting, and no matter what policy we pass now, it will not bring back these people. This will not bring back our friends, our neighbors, and our loved ones. We will continue to get the resources for our community that we need, and we will continue to work to make sure that we have the policies in place that keep other families, other loved ones, and other kids from going through this tragedy again.”

I could not agree more. Please listen to the entire clip. It is how Democrats and Progressives need to speak.
