Many share the same sentiment that Julian Castro articulates here. It is best that this is addressed now because it could bite us when we have no recourse.
Julian Castro nails it.
MSNBC Host Chris Jansing asked Julian Castro a very important question about the 2024 Presidential election.
“What’s your level of confidence,” Jansing asked. “That if Donald Trump is the nominee, Joe Biden can beat him?”
“Like a lot of people, if the choice is between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, I would vote for Joe Biden a thousand times if I could,” Castro said. “I think that he has been and would be a much better president than Donald Trump.”
What Castro said next will upset many Establishment Democrats as he referenced Trump’s CNN town hall.
“What we saw last night was the same Donald Trump that was bad for this country for the four years,” Castro said. “He was there and would be even worse if he came back. But I also am not as confident as a lot of people in Washington and the Democratic Establishment seem to be that Joe Biden is going to do well against Donald Trump. It’s concerning. I think it’s worrisome when you have a president that does have a record on the economy and other things that folks can be proud of, that he can be proud of. And yet you have him polling either right about tied in the margin of error with Trump or behind Trump in the ABC News Washington Post poll a few days ago. And that’s related to concerns that Democrats and some Independents have with the president. And something that his team has been unable to actually assuage the fears and the doubts that Democrats have.”
Castro then got deeper into the psyche of Democrats.
“You cannot ignore the fact that more than half of Democrats in several polls over the last year have said that they wanted somebody other than Joe Biden to run,” Castro said. And right now, I think that the Democratic Establishment is sort of trying to wipe that away, just sweep that under the rug. I’ll give you a good example of that. The DNC, who I have a lot of respect for; I like a lot of the people there. But then they decided that there would be no primary, no debate; I think they actually need to give Joe Biden a chance to get out there and show the American people what he can do, that he can run that campaign and beat whoever runs in the primary, whoever those opponents are, even if it’s just RFK Jr and Marianne Williamson. I don’t think that they want to wait until the fall of 2024 to have those debates.”
I could not agree more with Julian Castro. I support what President Joe Biden has done thus far. But we have got to put the country over the individual. And it is important for Americans to see that Joe is not your typical 80-year-old and that he can go another four years. Otherwise, the Kamala Harris demonization will get hyperbolic. Republicans will drop Biden and run against Kamala. And I am not sure that Democrats would go where they need to go to not only defend her but destroy the opposition.
