Here is why you should disregard the TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and TV ads purporting to educate you on all things Medicare. They will try to coerce you into enrolling in a Medicare Advantage plan.

SAY NO TO MEDICARE ADVANTAGE

Podcasts (Video — Audio)

Summary

The annual Medicare enrollment season is flooded with misleading ads, especially on TikTok and mainstream media, pushing seniors toward Medicare Advantage plans. These plans prioritize profit over patient care, often denying necessary services while locking people into substandard coverage. Traditional Medicare with Medigap remains the safest and most reliable choice for long-term health security.

  • TikTok, Instagram, and TV ads often mislead seniors into enrolling in Medicare Advantage.
  • Medicare Advantage plans prioritize profit, frequently denying critical care through pre-authorization schemes.
  • Traditional Medicare with Medigap provides broader, more reliable coverage without excessive corporate interference.
  • Policies from the Trump era threaten to expand corporate control over traditional Medicare services.
  • Independent media plays a crucial role in educating the public about corporate healthcare exploitation.

The fight for healthcare justice must center on protecting and strengthening traditional Medicare, not dismantling it for corporate profit. Medicare Advantage represents the creeping privatization of a vital public program, putting lives at risk to line the pockets of insurers. Educated voters and independent media are the last line of defense against a system rigged to deny care while enriching billionaires.

As Medicare open enrollment approaches, the airwaves, social media platforms, and even seemingly “educational” TikTok videos are saturated with ads pushing seniors toward Medicare Advantage plans. This flood of information appears helpful on the surface, but beneath the polished messaging lies a dangerous campaign driven by profit-hungry corporations seeking to privatize healthcare for America’s most vulnerable populations. Medicare Advantage is not about improving care; it is about enriching insurance companies while stripping patients of the protections and freedoms they deserve.

At its core, Medicare Advantage is a corporate scam disguised as a public benefit. Traditional Medicare was designed to guarantee that older Americans could receive comprehensive healthcare without interference from for-profit entities. Under this system, care decisions rested mainly in the hands of doctors and patients. However, Medicare Advantage replaces this model with one built on pre-authorization, denial of services, and corporate cost-cutting. Studies show that when Medicare Advantage denies care, up to 80% of appeals result in the patient ultimately receiving the care they were initially denied. This means that countless seniors experience unnecessary suffering simply because insurers prioritize their bottom line over human life.

The profit incentives driving Medicare Advantage are staggering. Insurance companies make significantly more money selling these plans than offering traditional Medigap supplemental policies. This has led many insurers to abandon Medigap altogether, forcing seniors into inferior plans that ultimately result in higher out-of-pocket expenses and denied services. As highlighted by watchdog reports, taxpayer dollars flow directly into the coffers of these corporations through government subsidies for Medicare Advantage, effectively turning public funds into private profit. What makes this exploitation even more egregious is the historical context: decades ago, private insurers fought against covering older Americans because they were considered too costly. Now, thanks to corporate lobbying and government collusion, these same companies are cashing in.

Adding to the danger is a disturbing Trump-era initiative to test pre-authorization schemes within traditional Medicare itself. This pilot program aims to hand over decision-making about medical services to the very same private companies notorious for denying care under Medicare Advantage. These companies are even incentivized financially to deny services—the more they reject, the more they profit. If fully implemented, this scheme would erode traditional Medicare’s foundational promise, turning it into another profit-driven marketplace where seniors’ lives are treated as expendable.

The mainstream media have largely failed to inform the public about these systemic abuses. Instead, corporate outlets often act as mouthpieces for the very industries undermining Medicare, offering simplistic coverage that obscures the real stakes. This dereliction of duty fuels public ignorance, making it easier for corporations to manipulate voters and policymakers. Independent media, funded by grassroots supporters rather than billionaires, remains the last bastion of truth-telling in this fight. Voices outside the corporate media echo chamber must continue to expose the fraud and mobilize resistance.

The stakes could not be higher. If Medicare Advantage’s privatization scheme continues unchecked, millions of seniors will face worsening health outcomes, skyrocketing costs, and diminished autonomy. This is not a partisan issue; even MAGA supporters will suffer under these policies. Corporate greed knows no political boundaries, and the assault on Medicare represents a broader attack on the very concept of a social safety net.

Progressives must lead the charge in defending Medicare. This means advocating for policies that expand traditional Medicare, lower the eligibility age, and eliminate the profit motives corrupting healthcare. It also means educating voters about the realities of Medicare Advantage and the dangers of corporate propaganda. By rejecting the false promises of privatization, Americans can reclaim Medicare as a public good designed to serve people, not profits.

The fight to protect Medicare is a fight for dignity, justice, and the soul of the nation. Seniors deserve better than to be treated as raw material for corporate exploitation. As open enrollment approaches, let the message be clear: say no to Medicare Advantage and demand a healthcare system that puts people over profits.
