Wendy Davis Speech At Stand With Texas Women Rally (VIDEO)

July 2, 2013 By Egberto Willies

Sorry, there was a YouTube error.

There were over 5,000 men and women in attendance on a very hot business day at the Texas State Capitol to listen to State Senator Wendy Davis. The crowd was 10 times greater than what was expected. Women (and men) in Texas have finally reached the critical mass, the self-sustaining nature that will be required to change the Taliban nature of Texas politics. While the women of Texas have been organizing and mobilizing for some time to reclaim their dignity in a state that treats them like property or at best indentured servants, Wendy Davis has become the symbol, the encapsulation of said frustration.

Wendy Davis Speech At Stand With Texas Women Rally

Wendy Davis gave a Texas centric speech to a Texas audience yearning for a promise land where once again Texas can be the state where freedom really reigns, the state of real opportunity for all and innovation. Through her, many women and men feel not only empowered but a responsibility to be the change. After-all, if a ‘tiny’ woman from humble beginnings can take on the task to defeat Goliath; it is the responsibility of every Texan to join the fight.

If one doubts the fear Wendy Davis and the new emboldened Progressives have placed in the power structure within Texas, one just need to take a look at the local coverage. National coverage was much greater than the few minutes it received on the local broadcast news and their respective websites. There is a change coming to Texas and it will be led by Texas women.

I was born in Houston, more than 80 years ago. Although we moved out of state when I was four, I had already learned “The eyes of Texas…”and was taught “Texas Brags,” meaning I was proud to be born in Texas–just naturally a bit better than anyone else. In fact, I teased my poor little sister because she was not born in Texas. My mother was proud of her Texas rearing, and she received a excellent education in Houston (four years of Latin, excellent English, literature and math through trigonometry.) She went to Meharry Medical College in pharmacy–class of 1926.

Summer visits to Texas are favored memories.

I decided to return to Texas in 2004, following divorce, and grown, absent children.
Sadly I did not get the same vibe I once had. and the fates sent a real estate agent to say someone wanted to buy my house within 16 months. I left Texas in 2006.

I want to suggest a concentrated campaign to try to reach the repugnuts like Rick Perry, and his breed. If publicity aimed at the contrast between the freedom they scream about–for themselves–contrasted with the slavery they impose on everyone else could be brought to
their attention–holding their feet to the flame–more than the Lone Ranger cartoon, more intense.

We know, scientifically, that when a person focuses on one item they do not SEE peripherally. These narrow-minded/limited vision people need to learn to shift their focus so that what is not seen (Ellison’s invisible man IS in their vision. This must be hammered at them, continuously “You believe in freedom–but only for those who look and smell like you. How insular.”

Thank you for a great lbog, sent tome by a friend at TAMU.
