Congressman Dan Donovan (R-NY) appeared on All-In with Chris Hayes and was none too kind to the new iteration of Trumpcare, the Obamacare replacement. He explained all the reasons the draconian bill is bad.
Republican voting no on Obamacare replacement
A reporter asked Paul Ryan if people with preexisting conditions would do better under his Obamacare replacement. He lied and said yes. Rep. Dan Donovan, a Republican made it clear that the bill is even worse than the previous draft law.
“It is impossible to see how that is true,” Chris Hayes said. “Since this latest iteration of Trumpcare would allow states to get rid of the Obamacare provision that prevents insurance companies from charging higher prices for people with complex health problems which include preexisting conditions. And perhaps this is why Republicans are having a hard time building support for their revamped plan to repeal and replace Obamacare.
Hayes went on to enumerate GOP Rep after GOP Rep who were no votes. According to The Hill, there are already 21 no votes.
Donovan surprised Ryan with a fact he was unaware of with the ACA. Blue states with abortion mandates under the new bill would not get the low income and subsidies.
The congressman enumerated some of the draconian portions of the proposed law.
- Tax credits not available in the Blue States because those states mandate that the service is provided.
- No relief for those buying insurance on the individual markets.
- Current law allows insurance companies to charge seniors three times as much as they charge a young healthy person. Trumpcare allows insurance companies to charge five times as much.
- A senior citizen living on a fixed income making $26,000 a year could be liable to pay up to fourteen thousand dollars for their premiums.
All our politicians and their staff had to be on Obamacare. Hayes also pointed out that TrumpCare has a provision where politicians and their staff did not have to be on Trumpcare. Republicans have lost their complete sense of what is proper and of optics.
Keep the pressure on Congress. Make sure none of these bills get through.
