Texas GOP Executive Director Blames Women For Lower Pay (VIDEO)

March 18, 2014 By Egberto Willies

Sorry, there was a YouTube error.

Beth Cubriel

The Executive Director of the Texas Republican Party and chief Greg Abbott ally Beth Cubriel appeared on YNN’s Capitol Tonight program. Beth Cubriel was there to explain the GOP’s alternative to a Texas Lilly Ledbetter Act.

Beth Cubriel blames the aggrieved

It should be noted that Texas women make 82 cents for every dollar a man makes. When asked about it, the answer Beth Cubriel gave was true to form. “Men are better negotiators,” Beth Cubriel said. “I would encourage women instead of pursuing the courts for action to become better negotiators.”

Beth Cubriel answer is your classic Republican answer. If you are harmed by externalities it’s your fault. If you are harmed by systemic defects in our laws it is your fault. You are on your own. It is no accident that this followed Cari Christman’s response to a similar question when she implied women are too busy to be concerned with equal pay.

Wendy Davis campaign spokeswoman Rebecca Acuna’s response to Beth Cubriel’ s remark was necessarily swift.  “Greg Abbott’s allies’ defense of his opposition to equal pay for women is out-of-touch and offensive. Texans deserve a governor like Wendy Davis who will fight for economic fairness for all hardworking families instead of Gregg Abbott’s business as usual hostility to fair pay legislation.”

When a Party calls special session intent on taking control of a woman’s body, there is a problem. When a Party refuses freely available already paid for healthcare coverage for thousands of women, there is a problem. When a Party passes laws that effectively leave women without a reliable avenue for reproductive services, there is a problem. When a Party forces invasive procedures like the vaginal ultrasound on women, there is a problem.

If one does not acknowledge they have a problem with women issues they will continue to provide the same narrative. They will continue their abuse of women.

Women need to be better negotiators… as long as part of the negotiation doesn’t include asking to be paid or treated equally…
