Obama: ‘Middle-class families can’t wait for Republicans in Congress to do stuff. So Sue me!’

July 2, 2014 By Egberto Willies

President Obama continues middle-class centric attack on do nothing Republicans

President Obama continues his trek around the country excoriating an intransigent ‘do nothing’ Congress. He seemed to be relishing in Speaker of the House John Boehner’s threat to sue him. Even though John Boehner is not exactly sure on what grounds he wants to sue the president, he like many Republicans believe the president is abusing his authority by taking executive actions.

A couple of days ago President Obama slammed John Boehner and the Republicans in a White House press conference. John Boehner informed the president that there will be no action on immigration reform. That seemed to be the last straw. The president came out swinging. He said the following.

I would love nothing more than bipartisan legislation to pass the House, the Senate, land on my desk so I can sign it. That’s true about immigration, that’s true about minimum wage, that’s true about equal pay. There are a whole bunch of things where I would greatly prefer Congress actually do something. … I take executive action only when we have a serious problem, a serious issue. And Congress chooses to do nothing. … And in this situation, the failure of Congress to pass a darn bill is bad for our economy and its bad for our future.

Yesterday the president continued his assault on Republican intransigence. This time his photo-op was in front of Key Bridge in Washington, a bridge that connects the Georgetown area to Virginia.

Speaking about his transportation bill he said the following.

It’s not crazy, it’s not socialism. It’s not the imperial presidency – no laws are broken. We’re just building roads and bridges like we’ve been doing for the last, I don’t know, 50, 100 years. But so far, House Republicans have refused to act on this idea.

But his tag line is what should activate both his base and all Americans that are tired of Republican induced gridlock in Washington. President Obama defiantly said, “Middle-class families can’t wait for Republicans in Congress to do stuff. So sue me.

The middle-class has been held hostage for much too long. Hopes were that a president like Barack Obama would be able to break the shackles. However the American plutocracy aided by corporatist Democrats and an intransigent Republican Party proved  formidable. A willing president needs a very active grassroots. One hopes the opportunity is seized now.

middle-class centric, struggling middle-class
