President Update On The Fiscal Cliff–A Deal In Sight

President Obama addressed the nation today at around 1:45 PM Eastern. He said: “It appears that an agreement to prevent this New Year’s tax hike is within sight…but it is not done. There are still issues left to resolve but we are hopeful that Congress can get it done….but it’s not done. The fiscal cliff negotiation is a scam whose intent is to undermine the intelligence of the American citizens. The fact is that all politicians whether they claim to be Democrats or Republicans are slaves to the military industrial complex, our corporatocracy, and our wealthy. It is for this reason they treat the working person’s income, their wages at a higher marginal rate of up to 35%, while the wealthy’ s income, generally capital gains, at only 15%. It is for this reason that farm subsidies goes mostly to corporations. It is for this reason that loopholes mostly protect income of corporations and the wealthy. It is for this reason Mitt Romney paid less than 15% in income taxes when the average middle class worker paid more. This has created a country where the wealthiest 400 people have accumulated more than the bottom 175 million Americans. Occupy Kingwood – Sustainable Form Of The Occupy Movement Ends After 52 Weeks (VIDEO)

Occupy Kingwood, our 52 consecutive weeks at the corner of Kingwood Drive and Lake Houston Blvd on Saturdays, has come to an end. The movement however goes on as the group is morphing into an affiliate of Move To Amend that will do grassroots work to build consensus on modifying the constitution to codify that “money is not speech” and that “corporations are not people”. Today we received media coverage from Channel 11, our CBS affiliate and the Kingwood Observer. We had north of 50 participants this morning. What Occupy Kingwood has accomplished in this very conservative suburb is something that should be done throughout the country to show politicians that the citizenry no longer feel impotent. It will show politicians that they are ready to engage and impose their collective will. Occupy Kingwood thanks the entire Kingwood community for a mostly civil response to our activities at the corner every Saturday. I did a CNN iReport a couple of days ago on the politicians and the fiscal cliff. It got picked up and played today on CNN. The video is below. It can be proven that a strong middle class and equal access to the middle class created a vibrant economy. As such policies that support a strong middle class is essential for the country’s survival. If one itemizes policies that are helpful to the middle class and policies that hurt them and said policies fall with a particular party, I believe the media would be derelict in its duty not to point that out. Just as a recent example, I posted this blog post that illustrated that. Is it a left or partisan post? NO. It is a factual post. Both parties, well, all parties would do their jobs if the population were informed and could really make an informed decision. America’s safety net, specifically Medicare is continuously under attack. Many politicians claim that its growth rate makes the budget deficit untenable lest there be substantial changes; in other words, draconian cuts. An article in the Business Insider  by Joe Weisenthal is dispelling that myth. He states The conventional wisdom on the deficit is: Right now the deficit doesn't pose a problem, but thanks to the gigantic growth in healthcare costs, it's inevitable that the government will get swamped by Medicare spending, ergo we need to tweak the system. Peter Orszag, who was the head of the Office of Management and Budget under Obama, and who is now at Citi, offers up a chart that could be a Medicare costs game-changer. “This graph from S&P illustrates two key facts: health-care costs have decelerated over the past few years, and Medicare costs have decelerated more than other health costs. I was just doing my morning Googleing of two organizations I am a part of, Coffee Party USA and Move To Amend. I do this to watch our performance in the social media sphere and to monitor any misinformation of these organizations that may be out there. This morning I came across this gem on Move To Amend Executive Committee member Ashley Sanders. I was with Ashley and the rest of the Move To Amend executive committee at a planning retreat in Tampa Florida last week. All of us can state categorically that her zeal for social change is stronger now than ever. She was instrumental in providing ideas going forward.
